Vicky, I agree that the relationships are key. How would you start developing relationships without knowing who your friends are and who your audience is?

The only way to target the right people is to go into the whole thing knowing what your desired end result is. This way you can build relationships with the right groups of people.

Different social networks serve different purposes, so when you join any network you need to keep in mind why you are there. If you forget to do this, then you will be wasting your time.

And yes, I couldn’t agree with you more about selling…keep it to a minimum.

I appreciate your comments about friends and audience but the key is not the product but developing the relationships. Twitter is about new prospects and new relationships. Facebook is about developing relationships with your existing customers and who you already know. Sound familiar? Who do you know that might be interested ? You already have a relationship with these folks in some way. Linked-In is purely professional and is not a casual chat room. Each one has an audience. The key is not to sell but 5% of the time. Again, it’s relationships you are after not sales. They will come later.
